• An estimated 31,000 intentionally set structure fires occured in 2006.
• Intentionally set fires in structures resulted in 305 civilian deaths.
• Intentionally set structure fires also resulted in $755,000,000 in property loss.
• 20,500 intentionally set vehicle fires occurred, a decrease of 2.4% from a year ago, causing $134,000,000 in property damage, an increase of 18.6% from a year ago.

In 1994 . . .

• The average property loss from incendiary and suspicious fires increased by 24 percent to $27,810.
• More than 41,000 vehicles were destroyed by arson, resulting in $137 million in property damage.
• Juveniles accounted for 55 percent of arson arrests.
• Law enforcement agencies across the country reported 95,764 arson offenses.
• Fifty-two percent of arson fires occurred in structures, 26 percent in vehicles and 22 percent in other categories.
